Retail Therapy 038: New York & Louisville Captain's Log
The shops, the cops, a (possible) drink of the summer.
Whew. Finally feeling back to normal after a long week of travel, socializing, and shopping. And, well, working too.
Unless you’re new here, you know that Barrett and I just spent a week together traveling between Louisville and New York City for various Retail Therapy-related events. And it was probably one of the more fun weeks of work we’ve ever had.
While this week’s listener companion may look like more of a list, that only seems appropriate given how much we took on. Here’s a list of all the places we hit on our trips, along with any other pertinent information that may aid in planning future trips for you as well.

The Drink of the Summer?
Just before recording, we had a swarm of DMs come in about a potential “drink of the summer” — something we’re absolutely determined to be at the forefront of this season. The article was from Grub Street and said the following:
Although it is fabulous and summery, one detail about the green-mango martini that works in its favor is that it is only served at one bar, Superbueno, a new Mexican American establishment at the corner of First Street and First Avenue in the East Village.
It is made with neither gin nor vodka, instead starting with a base of Patrón that’s infused with unripe mangos, giving it a sour, slightly green flavor.
The real mango soul in this drink comes from a mango brandy that’s made by a friend of Nacho’s. “He uses the whole mango: crushes it, ferments it, and then distills it,” says Nacho, who then adds honey and Sauternes. He figured it was a “no-brainer” since mango is often listed at the top of the dessert wine’s tasting notes.
So… drink of the summer? Not so much. This reads more like a sponsored post for this restaurant that they used “DOTS” verbiage for to get clicks.
The drink that’s currently on our radar, though? The White Negroni. Here’s a quick recipe if you’re interested:
Ingredients
1 1/2 ounces gin
1 ounce Lillet blanc
1/2 ounce Suze gentian liqueur
Garnish: lemon twist
Steps
Add the gin, Lillet blanc and Suze into a mixing glass with ice and stir for 15 to 20 seconds until well-chilled.
Strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice.
Garnish with a lemon twist.
Of course, we closed things out with our wishlists and imminent cops.
For 2023, we’ve hit the reset button on our wishlists and made them a bit more digestible for the year ahead. To access the complete version of our 2022 wishlists, look no further than our final Listener Digest of 2022. New items in bold.
