Retail Therapy 025: Celebrity Couples & Vintage Birkenstocks
We're a pro-aging podcast now thanks to Julia Fox.
Listen to today’s Retail Therapy on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube (see above), and anywhere else podcasts are found.
An admission — upon further review, yes, Barrett and I probably should’ve done our yearly gift guide this week ahead of all the sale emails that are about to flood your inboxes. Mistake? Maybe. Will it be our next episode? Of course. But let’s not harp on the negatives here, and let’s get into this week’s companion for Retail Therapy.
The Taylor Swift Chokehold
Did you spend all Monday waiting for your pre-sale code to arrive? Yeah, same. Did you try logging in using a friend’s pre-sale code to buy tickets only to get kicked out? Yep, me too. Are you still ticket-less despite your best efforts? I think you see the pattern here.
Neither of us have tickets yet but fear not — I think it’s only a matter of time before some fall into our laps. At least that’s what I keep telling myself.
Of course they’re dating.
“It” Girl™ Emily Ratajkowski is obviously dating Pete Davidson now. The news broke via Deuxmoi (of course) and the clues have been trickling in ever since — including her liking a tweet about dating Pete freakin’ Davidson.
Maybe we should’ve seen this coming. Perhaps we did and already talked about it on the podcast despite not remembering it. In reality, I’m not totally sure. But what I do know is that I’m weirdly more here for these two dating than I ever was for he and Kim’s relationship.
Yes, I hate that I’m invested in celebrity couples. I blame my mom’s People Magazines from 1997.
$200K for Steve Jobs’s Birkenstocks
The ultimate cop? While I may think so, Barrett slowly began convincing me that memorabilia purchases are best left in the 1990s. This week, an old pair of Steve Jobs Birkenstocks sold for $218K at auction. They look exactly like mine.
Had I gotten my hands on these, there’s a 100% chance I’m wearing them as my house shoes for the rest of my life rather than putting them in a glass box in my library. I don’t have a library but you get the picture.
Julia Fox Is Pro-Aging (And So Am I)
Julia Fox is my current favorite celebrity for all the right reasons. Hands down, pound-for-pound the most entertaining human walking the earth right now. She lives and breathes chaos. If you don’t believe me, here’s a recent TikTok from her where she implores us all to stop buying anti-aging products despite her promoting anti-aging products in the past.

If wrinkles are in as we roll into 2023, I think we’re going to be alright.
And finally, some listener questions.
To close out this week’s episode, we took some listener questions that we fetched from @retail.pod on Instagram. It’s a good account, seriously. Go follow it.
The questions we touched on were as follows:
Do either of you own anything from Corridor? Worth the price?
Are there any women whose style inspires you, or any ideas from a women’s wardrobe that you would borrow?
Are Ugg boots back fully?
What’s your go-to travel uniform for plane rides?
As always, we closed things out with our wishlists and imminent cops.
Apologies for any broken links below — a lot of these products are now from older seasons or have since sold out, so our link situation will remain in flux.
