A big two weeks for Retail Therapy.
If you’re behind on episodes (it’s okay, we don’t judge), it’s probably news to you that Barrett and I will be out of town quite a lot over the next two weeks. On Friday, we’re headed to Louisville to cover The Kentucky Derby. There are rumors that I’ll be wearing an ascot but they have yet to be confirmed.
The following week, we are heading to New York City for an event we’re doing with Nordstrom on Wednesday, May 10th from 6-8 p.m. If you’d like to join us, RSVP by emailing retailtherapyxnordstrom@nordstrom.com — we’re close to capacity but there’s still some room. We’d love to see you.
Now for the important stuff — this week’s listener companion that should’ve been released yesterday.
What would you have worn to Sofia Richie’s wedding?
There’s officially a new “it” girl just ahead of summer 2023. Sofia Richie’s wedding in the south of France has been covered by everyone and anyone (including herself) so I’ll spare you all the details you’ve already seen on Instagram.
But from the Retail Therapy camp’s perspective, we’re very happy about this revelation.
The Olive Oils Are Feuding
If there’s one thing I love doing online, it’s catching up on totally unnecessary and meaningless beefs. And this squeeze bottle olive oil beef is about as good as it gets.
Have you seen this bottle everywhere like I have?
What about this new one that just hit the market?
Well if you haven’t seen either of them, here’s the deal — Graza thinks Brightland is ripping them off, so the founder of Graza went on LinkedIn and poured them out (squeezed them out?) for having a similar product. Here’s the post itself —
“Write an angry email to the person you’re mad at, read it over a few times, and then delete the draft. I promise you’ll feel better.”
Someone told be this while I was in my early 20s and it’s something I’ve done ever since. Someone may need to forward this information to Graza’s founder, Andrew Benin.
How far are you willing to go to prove your enemy’s suit isn’t bespoke?
Derek Guy, otherwise known as @dieworkwear on Twitter, has had his tweets shoved down all of our throats for what feels like the last year. I can’t even blame him for it either because I’d be elated if Twitter’s algorithm was that friendly to me.
This past week, however, he showed some real hater behavior that I can’t help but respect. It all began with this tweet.
While I know nothing about Jackson Hinkle, I do know that I’m in favor of Derek Guy dunking on him just from seeing this photo alone. I know Barrett and I have been talking a lot about accessorizing ahead of The Kentucky Derby but we’re pretty sure handguns aren’t the new “Hot Item of 2023.”
Well, of course, Jackson took issue with this quote-tweet. And then this transpired.
You read that correctly. Derek Guy wanted to dunk on him so badly that he literally called his tailor and interrogated him about his techniques. Unreal move from one of the most polarizing (but well-intentioned) people on Twitter.
Aime Leon Dore’s Spring Summer 2023 Drop
To close things out this week, we gave a nod to an especially good drop from Aime Leon Dore. While we do talk about them a lot (justified or not), Friday’s email was simply too good to ignore with the recording coming later than afternoon.
Here’s an album of some of my favorite pieces from the line (and don’t be afraid to follow Retail Therapy while you’re at it!) —
See the entire collection here.
Of course, we closed things out with our wishlists and imminent cops.
For 2023, we’ve hit the reset button on our wishlists and made them a bit more digestible for the year ahead. To access the complete version of our 2022 wishlists, look no further than our final Listener Digest of 2022. New items in bold.
