While we’ve absolutely loved having guests for the lat few episodes of Retail Therapy, I have to admit… it was nice getting back in the swing of things for the first time in over a month.
For those of you who aren’t on Instagram, yes, we can confirm that Barrett has officially gotten engaged. Here’s some proof.
The deed was done at Hotel San Cristóbal in Todos Santos. And while Barrett expressed a lot of regret toward one particular aspect of his engagement fit, I think he’s being a little hard on himself. You can watch on YouTube for the photographic evidence that he said would “never see Instagram.”
A heartfelt congratulations to the happy couple. We celebrated over brick oven pizza and natural wine last weekend — all-time vibes.
Can you trust those Instagram & TikTok brands?
Ever bought anything from a brand you’ve never seen anywhere but on Instagram? Same. Numerous times. And if you’re anything like me, you’ve had some good and bad experiences.
Something tells me that one particular brand popped into your head when you read that above character. For me, it was a company called [redacted for nice-ness purposes]. The t-shirt was too boxy, oversized (and not an ‘oversize fit’), and generally low quality despite their marketing.
However, yes, we did discuss a couple brands that actually have panned out in this space. I guess you’ll just have to listen to find out which brand falls where.
Product I Love: Stussy Pigment Dyed Crew
When I first had the idea for Retail Therapy, I thought we’d review far more products than we have up until this point. But after taking a chance and buying a t-shirt from Stussy that I absolutely fell in love with, it seemed like a natural time to unveil this generically-named (and soon-to-be-renamed) segment.
You’ll have to listen for the reasons I’ve fallen head over heels for these tees, but here’s a link if you’re interested in shopping them. And yes, I totally blame Rhys McKee for putting me onto Stussy during his episode from a few weeks ago.
Are we… are we wearing ascots this summer? (Probably not.)
Inspired by this recent article in The Wall Street Journal (yes, you need a subscription to read it unfortunately), I’ve had ascots on my mind.
A few years ago (pre-lockdown) I was sitting at a hotel bar on a warm Saturday afternoon. I surveyed the scene and noticed there were a lot of Cool People™ there, but one person in particular caught my eyes with his post-pool get-up: tasteful swim trunks that were still damp, a plain white tee, and a handkerchief tied around his neck to complete (and dress up) the otherwise messy look.
Was it an ascot? Well, not totally. Did everyone start doing this once we all started using bandanas instead of masks? Kind of. Is Daniel Craig’s role in Glass Onion responsible for an uptick in ascot sales? Perhaps. Will I end up purchasing the $450 handkerchief from Drake’s just to make this look a reality? Hell no.
Of course, we closed things out with our wishlists and imminent cops.
For 2023, we’ve hit the reset button on our wishlists and made them a bit more digestible for the year ahead. To access the complete version of our 2022 wishlists, look no further than our final Listener Digest of 2022. New items in bold.
