Welcome to Postcards, the photography side of Sunday Scaries. After upgrading my film camera in 2023, film has overtaken my iPhone as my camera of choice. Here you’ll find photos from travels, home, and anywhere in between. To see more, check out the Postcards section of this Substack.
If you enjoy my photography, consider purchasing our zine, Scenes of Note.
When I was in first grade, we took a family trip to Mexico for spring break — Cancun, specifically. I don’t remember much from the trip other than thinking Señor Frogs was the coolest place on earth and that life was clearly better while on vacation.
On that trip, however, my parents gave me my first disposable camera. I’m not sure why they thought this would be a good idea, and it wasn’t. When the developed the photos upon our return to Michigan, they had to have been devastated at what they saw: a photo series of trashcans from around the resort and topless women on the beach (which I had never seen before).
Needless to say, I think my tastes in film photography have evolved a lot since that jaunt south.
Last month, we headed to Mexico yet again but this time to a bucket list hotel that has always been on our list: Las Ventanas al Paraíso. Needing to check out from a major work decision that was announced, I think I may have taken too many photos. I hope you enjoy them.1
Equipment Used
Camera: Nikon Lite Touch Zoom 140 ED AF
Film: Kodak Gold 200 35mm
And if you’re tired of seeing these photos because I’ve already spammed them all over Instagram, well, I get it. But it didn’t sit right with me that they weren’t part of the Postcards series.
I think the trash can and topless woman series was ahead of it's time.
Interesting way to use Substack! Lovely photos! Keep being your best self and ignore the rest of us! Cheers! ❤️
