The Sunday Digest 151
"I've walked a mile just to catch a smile from a fish without its brine."
Welcome to The Sunday Digest — a free Sunday newsletter featuring long (and some short) reads, original columns, things I’ve saved over the last week, relaxing playlists, episodes releases, exclusive product drops, and more. Yes, you can reply to this email. I’d love to hear from you.
Some Housekeeping
If you haven’t checked out our collaboration with Dinner Service NY yet, you only have until October 1st to order. You can shop that here.
We still have Leisurist and For Sundays Only crewneck sweatshirts available, but they’re low in stock for several sizes.
I did two posts for paid subscribers this week — Postcards from Northern Michigan and another 3,000-word mailbag-style You’ve Got Mail column.
While we re-work the containers for future Sunday Scaries candles, we now have several candles for on sale over at Vellabox.
Sunday Read: 40 of the Coziest Movie Homes
by for Worth Noting
Some people just have “movie homes.” The way the books are stacked perfectly yet haphazardly. Blankets that have barely been used strewn about and always available. A fireplace that makes your mind wander thinking about how many generations before huddled around it. Not everyone who has a nice home has a movie home, but movie homes are always a time for muttering, “Why can’t I live somewhere like this?” whenever you leave.
This week, a tribute to movie homes — especially the coziest ones.
Here’s an excerpt, though the screengrabs of the movie homes and scenes truly make the read:
Who, on screen, has ever made a desk in the middle of a living space work well? Kathleen Kelly in You’ve Got Mail, nervously typing to her unknown suitor at her little desk pressed against the wall in her lovely NYC apartment. Or Erica Barry in Something’s Gotta Give, crafting her play in that sunlit bedroom with the ocean just beyond (a bedroom office I’d happily endorse). Frances penning from her antique-filled writing room in her gorgeous Tuscan villa, in Under the Tuscan Sun. I found myself studying how their desks were arranged and styled. Flowers, tchotchkes, messy piles of papers and mail, photographs, the lamps, real house phones! I’m the kind of person who pauses a movie to analyze the bookcase in the background or the clutter on a counter. Sometimes I watch films purely for the houses alone.

New Episode › Retail Therapy 128: Non-Performatively Getting Into Berghain After Charli’s Wedding
A true pop culture grab bag this week — the social event that was Charli XCX’s wedding, the boys getting early access again at Aime Leon Dore (and why that’s not good news), Berghain in Berlin, breaking down the non-performative male, walking x miles and eating x for dinner, the terrible Team USA Ryder Cup style, “that” J.Crew sweater, the top 50 restaurants in America, and a tour through the collection we curated through Canoe Club.

Things I Saved This Week
My Sunday To-Do List
I think it’s finally time to organize my closet as we near fall weather. As much as I don’t want to take on that sort of project, it’s become necessary.
I’d like to pop into a store to see if they have something I need to try on before purchasing. But that honestly seems a bit annoying today.
This restaurant was recently named as one of the top 50 in America by The New York Times. I may need to try sooner than later, and it sounds phenomenal. Maybe not today but putting it here as a bookmark.
A lot of worthy sports to watch today: Newcastle v. Arsenal, Browns at Lions, Ryder Cup.
Unfortunately, laundry. And even worse, it’s delicates. Ugh.
Rest.
I hope your Sunday is one you are able to look back on and smile,
Will
