Welcome to The Sunday Digest — a free Sunday newsletter featuring long (and some short) reads, original columns, things I’ve saved over the last week, relaxing playlists, episodes releases, exclusive product drops, and more. Yes, you can reply to this email. I’d love to hear from you. Or, if podcasts are more your speed on Sundays, we’ve got that too.
Sunday Read: Please Feel Free to Sit on the Art
by Tyler Watamanuk for Dwell
I love a good chair. Through my old job, I acquired a coffee table book I otherwise never would’ve been able to afford through my employee discount — Just One Good Chair by Hans J. Wegner — that ended up shaping the way I look at furniture altogether.
This week’s Sunday Read is about Michael McGregor, an artist who “creates wide-eyed renderings of traditional subject matters, with a focus on still life, that reinvigorate our relationship with the aesthetics of everyday life.” He was also an immediate Instagram follow upon finishing this piece.
Here’s an excerpt:
When Los Angeles artist Michael McGregor moved into a new studio in 2021, he was greeted by four mahogany chairs the former tenant left behind. He wasn’t exactly ecstatic about the hand-me-downs, nor their unattractively upholstered cushions, but he didn’t want to get rid of them either. So McGregor turned lemons into lemonade, or rather, he reupholstered the seats with canvas and painted them whenever he needed a break from his other work. One cushion featured a lone crocodile; another the unliking pairing of a simple citrus fruit and a rotund lobster. Every several months, he swapped in a fresh canvas cushion and painted something new, never overthinking it, a practice he still follows today.

New Episode › Retail Therapy 047: Women's Fall Fashion (with Sally and Laura)
You spoke, we listened. To preview some women's fall fashion for 2023, we welcome my wife, Sally, and Barrett's fiancee Laura to the show. From trends (like denim-covered cowboy boots) to their favorite style follows, we touched on as much as we possibly could over the course of our longest episode ever.
Listen to Retail Therapy on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, YouTube (see above), and anywhere else podcasts are found.
The Sunday Haiku: I simply don’t have the energy to type in my password using my Apple TV remote.
So ready for this,
Wait, how did I get logged out?
What else can we watch?
Relaxing Playlist › Steam Shower
After moving into our apartment, I soon realized the value of having a steam shower. And if you’ve followed me over the last couple years, I’ve probably over-talked about them. I mean, I’ve probably shared this playlist before. More than once. But now that the weather is turning a little cooler, my brain is shifting back into Steam Shower Mode.
This playlist is meditation-heavy with some other songs mixed in that give me a little skip in my step. I simply press “shuffle” and let the universe relax me. I hope you do too.
And yes, I make custom thumbnails for every single playlist I make on Spotify. No, I don’t know why I feel compelled to do so.
Some Articles of Interest
Earlier this week, I had a meeting where Substack subscriber growth was discussed. I was surprised to find out most subscriptions are generated through people recommending your Substack through their Substack, so it felt like an opportune time to feed the family by including some recent #articlesofinterest from publications I follow (or, in one case, contributed to).
Here’s what I read this week from Substack:
I hope you enjoy. And if you do, make sure to subscribe and support!
