Sunday Read: The Definitive Ranking of Wes Anderson’s Players
by Abe Beame for GQ
I have yet to watch Asteroid City because I keep asking myself a question I wish I’d stop asking myself: “Have Wes Anderson’s movies gotten to be too aesthetic?”
While that question may or may not be valid, I do still yearn for the days of when Jason Schwartzman was playing Rushmore more than I do of my experience seeing Isle of Dogs in theaters.
This piece from GQ, however, may expedite my route to having Asteroid City grace my television screen on a Sunday night in the near future. Here’s their criteria for the rankings:
What we here at GQ decided to examine was Anderson’s facility as a Pat Riley–esque executive, not just at procuring superstars, but how effectively they’ve been utilized across his 11 films. To be clear, this ranking is not an evaluation of general talent, but facility within the Wes Anderson Cinematic Universe.

Relaxing Watches

The Yin & Yang of Gerry Lopez
A surf documentary about the life of Gerry Lopez — a fiery surfer who turned out to be far more than just a pro surfer who wasn’t afraid to steal your wave.
Where Architects Live: Richard Found (Cotswolds, UK)
This series — Where Architects Live — has totally replaced almost all the other design-driven YouTube series I have in my rotation. I think the house of Richard Found is a perfect example of why.
Stretch Armstrong at 214 Mulberry
Retail Therapy darling Aime Leon Dore has recently launched (what I think will be) a series of DJ sets from their hi-fi lounge, 214 Mulberry. Am I about to remodel my entire vinyl setup to mimic their environment? Well, maybe.
The Sunday Haiku: I just need some time, okay?
Not now, not ever,
No Venmo requests today,
But maybe Wednesday.
