This week on The Sunday Scaries Podcast, someone asked me which daily task brings me the most peace. Spoiler: It’s cleaning and organizing. But recently, my Sundays have had another routine massaged into them that I think could make a splash if only it was more sustainable — pastries. My son has shown that he enjoys a donut with sprinkles while I take down my blueberry scone.
Croissants? Morning buns? Muffins? Nothing is off-limits when we arrive at our favorite bakery which makes this week’s Sunday Read all the more topical. Here’s an excerpt:
It’s been a decade since the pastry chef Dominique Ansel broke with centuries of European tradition by deep-frying a round of croissant dough, then filling and frosting it like a jelly doughnut. The colorful Cronut became the internet’s first celebrity pastry, generating media attention and long lines for monthly limited-edition drops.
While other pastry trends have come and gone (cake pops, anyone?), professional bakers continue to push the limits of what croissants can do.
