Retail Therapy 023: Negroni Sbagliatos, Bode Jackets, and Bleached Hair
Pasta Water Martini? Don't mind if I do.
Listen to today’s Retail Therapy on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube (see above), and anywhere else podcasts are found.
After what feels like longer-than-a-two-week-hiatus, we returned this week with the fullest slate of topics we’ve had since Retail Therapy began. And because I won’t be able to do Barrett’s hair justice but typing anything out here, I implore you to check out the earlier stage of this week’s episode on YouTube where he breaks it all down. Now let’s get into the rest of our topics.
Negroni Sbagliatos & Pasta Water Martinis
It should come as no surprise that we enjoy a nice martini during a night out, but this week we featured two cocktails that are new twists on old favorites. Beginning with the more viral of the two, Negroni Sbagliatos have been all the rage over the last week after a TikTok was posted by HBO.

The way “Negroni… sbagliato… with prosecco in it…” rolls off the tongue is 🤌. While neither of us have tried one, it’s only a matter of time. And if you’re wondering what the difference is when it comes to Negronis vs. Negroni Sbagliatos, look no further:
“Remember, a traditional Negroni is made from Campari, the bitter liqueur; sweet vermouth; and gin. The "broken" Negroni, or Negroni Sbagliato, starts with Campari and sweet vermouth. In place of gin, though, the Sbagliato version uses sparkling wine.”
But the drink we’ll likely try first? Well, it’s a little more “out there” in terms of simply ordering it at a restaurant — a pasta water martini.
While I can’t explain why I’m so enamored with the idea of this, I will be whipping one up the next time it’s pasta night in our kitchen. My garnish of choice? You’ll have to listen to find out.
Do you even have a Bode Senior Cord Jacket if you don’t flex it on Instagram?
Back in 2020, Barrett single-handedly raised the price of custom Bode notebooks after we did our annual Sunday Scaries Holiday Gift Guide. I’ll never forgive him for that now that I’ve been priced out but we still remain friends to this day.
These custom jackets have been pretty much everywhere — especially in New York City, as Barrett pointed out.
This lead to a discussion surrounding a lot more than just our opinions of the jackets — the pricing, what we’d have on our personal custom jackets, cost-per-Instagram, and more.
The “Cool” Lists
And finally, we dove into two separate lists of things that feel like distant cousins. Here’s a tweet Barrett found that might hit the nail on the head a little too hard:
I hang my head in shame realizing how much of a stereotype I can be sometimes — whether it’s the Carhartt, the moodboards, the Le Labo fragrances, or the Birkenstocks. But on the flip side of things, @starterpacksofnyc put together a list of things that are both “in” and “out” — something Barrett and I could only kind of relate to.
It’s the “saying you don’t know something without batting an eye” for me.
As always, we closed things out with our wishlists and imminent cops.
