Retail Therapy 021: London Street Style & Shorts x Crewnecks
What do Kanye and Princess Diana have in common?

I sat on a patio with a teeny-tiny espresso martini in front of me. Distracted from the conversation, I did something I had intentionally avoided all week — I reached down to my phone, picked it up, and texted someone about work.
Shortly thereafter, Barrett received a text from me that I think signaled I wanted to move to London permanently solely due to the street style that was unfolding in front of my eyes. And that that moment, I was ready to be back from vacation and behind the microphone of a Retail Therapy episode. Because time is off the essence, here’s everything you need to know about this week’s episode.
“Hey, what filter do you use?”
As a means to stay off my phone while on my honeymoon, I decided that I wouldn’t be spending a lot of time on Instagram throughout our trip. That being said, I’m millennial trash who can’t help but post Instagram stories so I limited myself to posting twice on the trip — both times while I was en route from one location to another. This yielded two extremely large photo dumps (@willdefries) that both kept me off my phone for most of the trip and scratched the itch of wanting to share the photos I had taken.
And the most common response? What filter do you use for your photos?
Luckily, Barrett had that question and more about the trip — we covered how packing for ten days in two carry-ons went, we discussed the ever-growing presence of AirPod Max headphones both in the gym and on the street, and — yes — we talked photo editing.
Spoiler: You need more than just a filter.
Window Shopping In London
I’m proud of myself — I bought exactly zero items while overseas despite having a fire inside telling me, “Do it, buy it all, financially ruin yourself.”
The way I skirted around the devil on my shoulder? Well, by sitting outside at restaurants and people watching as they walked by. Nothing pairs as well with a Guinness as silently judging people’s kits. Luckily for me, I think London street style fits in quite well with what I find aesthetically pleasing these days. From baggy wool coats to Reebok Club Cs to oversized “coat of arms” prep hats, a lot of what we’ve previously talked about on the most recent episodes of Retail Therapy has come to life in London. But, it kind of feels like it’s on steroids. And I kind of loved it.
Because I didn’t actually get to do any shopping, I have a complete list of stores and areas that listeners sent me via Instagram. And because I don’t want to rob anyone of that list, here’s everywhere people suggested:
Liberty of London
Daunt Books Marylebone
Aime Leon Dore in Soho
Duke’s Cupboard
Borough Market
Massimo Dutti
Harrods
Covent Garden Area
Classic Football Shirts
William Crabtree
Trunk Clothiers
Drakes
Anglo Italian
Selfridges
End
Oi Polloi
Rivet & Hyde
Bond Street
Fortnum & Mason (Tea)
Brick Lane Vintage Market (Shoreditch)
Portobello Road Outdoor Market
So while I can’t vouch for any because we ended up taking down cask ales all afternoon, you can’t say I didn’t try to help out.
Welcome to Shorts x Crewneck Season
*breathes in heavily* Yep, that’s the good stuff.
My favorite time of the year is nearly upon us down here in Texas, but I think it’s safe to say it’s rolling out widespread across the rest of the country right on schedule. Of course, I’m talking about Shorts x Crewneck Season.
Donald Glover was recently photographed in what could be considered a trademark version of the outfit which inspired this conversation as a whole. Yet, somehow while trudging through the subject matter, we landed in an unexpected territory — which socks should we be wearing with this combo? Crew socks? No shows? Quarter socks? No socks at all? The answer was much less straightforward than I thought.
JJJJound x Eddie Bauer
When I was around the age of 12, I thought the pinnacle of life was owning an Eddie Bauer Edition Ford Explorer. I saw one at the mall while back-to-school shopping and it changed the way I looked at cars forever. And is probably the main reason I have a car with a green exterior and a tan interior today.
Now, however, they’ve reprised their collaboration with noted Canadian minimalists JJJJound.
And while Barrett and I don’t totally understand the JJJJound product side of things, this jacket is enough to shove us in a more positive direction.
As always, we closed things out with our wishlists and imminent cops.
Apologies for any broken links below — a lot of these products are now from older seasons or have since sold out, so our link situation will remain in flux.
