Listen to today’s Retail Therapy on Apple Podcasts and Spotify (and anywhere else podcasts are found). This week, our studio was under construction so this will be one of the very few episodes where we don’t have video. Apologies in advance.
With Barrett heading out on vacation for the week, we recorded this week’s episode of Retail Therapy last week — so if we made any statements or assumptions that have since been rendered useless, we apologize.
Here’s everything you need to follow along with this week’s episode.
Why are we entertaining getting lymphatic drainage massages?
What is a lymphatic drainage massage, you may be asking? Well, because neither of us are professionals on the topic, allow me to punt this to The Times.
If you’re a Hollywood star, there’s a good chance you have a personal assistant or perhaps a personal shopper. Now, there’s a new must-have — a personal masseuse, especially one who specialists in “lymphatic drainage”.
The city’s actors, singers and models are constantly on the lookout for the newest treatments designed to preserve and enhance their beauty. And the latest procedure surging in popularity is the lymphatic massage. The treatment involves a gentle massage intended to encourage the movement of lymph fluids around the body.
Fans of the procedure believe it helps remove toxins from the body and makes them feel lighter. Rebecca Faria, a 29-year-old Brazilian masseuse, has become one of the most sought-after in Los Angeles and boasts a celebrity-filled client list.
Long story short: It’s mainly used as a way to reduce bloat and look skinnier ahead of a big weekend out of town where you want to flex on everyone. While I will probably get a Barrett-esque spray tan before diving into a relationship with a lymphatic masseuse, we can all just keep gathering information on this from Retail Therapy’s favorite #influencers, Hailey Bieber and Devin Brugman, who get them frequently.
Barrett also followed up the conversation with a product recommendation: a Wildling Empress Stone that aims to “lift, sculpt, tone, and de-puff the skin.” From what I can tell, it’s got major jade-rolling vibes which we’re obviously huge supporters of.
How would you spend your offseason?
I know we’re not all professional athletes, but we can at least draw inspiration for our vacations from professional athletes. Whether you’re Kevin Love partying with Lebron in Cannes or you’re Paul Pogba soaking in a Heat game from the *gasps* second row, there’s something comforting about watching our favorite athletes absolutely ball once their season has come to a close.
So how are we spending our summers? Well, funny you ask.
“Want to go ‘ave a chat on the daybeds?”
While Love Island UK had not debuted when we originally recorded this episode, we're fully in the swing of things now. Whether you’re watching easily in the UK or you’re on some sketchy site watching on your laptop stateside, Love Island has become many people’s makeshift vacation during the dog days of summer.
Being that I got too into the series over lockdown, I’m now held prisoner to it. During this week’s episode, we dove into their move away from fast fashion, I tried to convince Barrett to start watching in lieu of Bachelor franchise shows, and more.
Bonus Retail Therapy! (Well, kind of.)
This week, I also hopped on Barrett’s podcast, Club Cool, to discuss Aime Leon Dore’s London store opening, the Tom Sachs x Nike ‘General Purpose’ shoe, the #Kravis wedding (and how we’d theme our own weddings in our 40s), and much more.
To listen, head over to Club Cool on Apple Podcasts and Spotify.
As always, we closed things out with our wishlists.
